In my experience, modern leadership rarely fails because of a lack of knowledge. It fails because we are still leading with outdated patterns. 🚀
For years, we’ve been talking about flattening hierarchies, empowering employees and turning the traditional leadership pyramid upside down. Yet, in many organizations, I continue to see the exact opposite. Decisions are made at the top, tasks are delegated downwards, and leadership is still too often confused with control instead of support.
For me, Modern Leadership starts with one simple question: „What do you need to do your best work?“ #empowerment
That single question changes everything. 💡 Suddenly, the conversation is no longer about what the leader expects. It becomes about creating the conditions people need to succeed. More clarity? More trust? Faster decision-making? Fewer obstacles? More ownership? This is exactly what I learned when I worked at Booking.com – I was greeted by @Martijn with th following sentence: Hey Anika, I am not your boss I am your facilitator. My job is to make sure that you can do a great job. WOW !
This is exactly what I talk about in my keynotes. And although we’ve been discussing these ideas for years, I continue to see on stages around the world that many organizations are still operating with the same leadership patterns. The concept itself isn’t new. The real challenge is putting it into practice consistently in everyday leadership.
Because a great leader doesn’t need to have all the answers. A great leader removes obstacles, provides direction and creates an environment where people can unlock their full potential and feel safe. 🤍
And that’s exactly why Customer Experience doesn’t start with the customer. It starts with the people inside the organization.
Employees can only deliver externally what they experience internally every single day. Organizations that truly want to become customer-centric must first create an environment where people enjoy coming to work, feel empowered to take ownership and are able to do their very best.
To me, Modern Leadership isn’t about leading people. It’s about enabling people to succeed. ✨
What is your most important leadership asset?
Have a great Friday
